"Follow Your Heart, Follow Your Dream"
A Natural Spaces Domes Owner-Builder Story
Once there was a girl who
had a dream. For the girl with the dream to get to the
reality of building her own dream house (a dome home),
there were many nay-sayers, many obsticles, headaches,
heartaches and many giants to play.
But the girl had a plan and each time she was knocked
down, she got back up and said "I'm O.K."
I was that girl, and I was
58 years old and going through a divorce (from an abusive
husband), going through the process of trying to get
disability income. (I am unable to work, due to several
conditions) and had sold my house and was living here and
there and everywhere.
I picked a dome home
because I researched all types and decided it was most
stable for human conditions. Then I found out there was
one close to where I was going to build. This one
belonged to Dennis Johnson, owner of Natural Spaces
Domes. I called him and told him my dream.
We worked together to plan
my home. He gave me moral support when I had none from my
family or friends and guided me through the rough days.
The nay-sayers now say
what a wise choice I made. My family and friends are
amazed that I have been my own contractor and have
achieved not only getting my house built, but getting my
disability plus doing all of this while handicaped and
going through 2 surguries and a divorce.
It has not been easy, but
it's been a wonderful learning experience. I want to than
kthe volunteers that came November 1st, 2002 for the dome
raising and the staff at Natural Spaces Domes for their
support and help.
